Marketing any website is not an easy task but when it comes to blogs you do have an advantage in that is that most blogging platforms are 90% search engine optimized, this means that they have good coding (PHP) and they have many modules and plug-ins that can enhance your marketing efforts but, as you might have already realized having a good script is just half the battle, you need to come up with a good search engine marketing strategy, execute it, but you're tracking scripts in place and be patient for the results to be noticeable.

Most people who start a blog will have unrealistic expectations and this is because there are many blogs that have been beautifully optimized and the content which has been posted on them is very sticky. In order to get to the top and get good traffic you need to focus on:

-- Your blog content
-- Illustrations
-- Relevant link exchanges
-- Directory submissions

-- Article marketing
-- Social bookmarking

There are many more ways to market your blog and get good traffic but if you have a nice design and good content to couple with it then you will be able to retain your visitors which is something that Google analytics refers to as the stickiness of your site and the bounce rate. In a nutshell, if your blog has a good design and useful content Google might notice that your bounce rate is very low, this means that your blog is useful to your visitors and as a result you will see an increase in page rank.

The number of prisoners and you get your blog depends on the number of incoming links that you have and how often you update your blog with fresh or unique content, basically the first few months you will not see much of the increase in traffic because you need to start posting more and more content which later one will be indexed by Google crawlers and once they are in Google's index you will then start to see an increase in traffic, it is then when you can start thinking about putting in place your advertising tools and monetizing your site, if you fill your blog with advertising before it has any visitors you might get the bad habit of constantly checking your affiliate program statistics just to see that they click that you're getting are not much at all, if you keep this up you will only disappoint yourself.

Generating revenue with blogs takes time so it is important that you stick to your marketing and link building strategy and be patient while your traffic builds up to the point when you can finally put in place the advertising that will help you monetize the site.
