Search Engine Optimization Offpage Factors |
What is offpage optimization?
Offpage SEO consists of the ranking factors that are not located on or within your web page. These factors are what search engines look at when assigning your web page a ranking.
Common offpage search engine optimization includes:
- The type of websites that link to you
- The number of websites that link to you
- The page title of the website linking to you
- The anchor text used in the links linking to you
- The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to you
The above is covers a portion of the offpage factors that are important. You can find a more detailed list in the free book, Search Engine Optimization Made Easy.
Lets look at the above one by one:
The type of websites that link to you
This is important because search engines look at the type of websites that are linking to you to see if they are relevant to your topic or not or if they are from what is known as “bad neighborhoods.” If you want your website to succeed you should choose your linking partners carefully. Search engines such as Google, place high importance on the type and quality of the websites that links to you. If it is a garbage non relevant site that will reflect on your ranking especially if you have a link back to them.
The number of websites that link to you
The more quality relevant websites you have linking to you the better. Not only does it improve your ranking but it also a great way to generate additional traffic from other’s sites
The page title of the website linking to you
This goes along with the first point. The title shows whether or not relevant sites are linking to you. It would be odd if you are selling children’s clothing and most of the your inbound links relate to dog training. That would raise a red flag to the search engine and you may not rank well. If you are going to sell children’s clothing check the sites that you are linking from you and look at the title of the link page to see if it has something to do with children and/or clothing.
The anchor text used in the links linking to you
The one is critical! You want to use anchor text that in incorporates your important keywords. Anchor text enhances the relevance of the page you are linking too. The inclusion of important keywords in the anchor text can make a big difference in the final ranking of your site pages. All search engines that matter, give significant weight to the anchor text on your pages.
The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to you
The fewer of links on the web pages that link to you the better. This gives the impression that you website adds value or is more relevant than if there were 10 additional links on the same page.
