Pay-Per-Click Internet Advertising

Pay-per-click Internet advertising is a cost effective approach to promoting your products or services and driving targeted traffic to your website. Unlike advertising with the major search engines pay-per-click Internet advertising is very affordable and easy to manage.

Pay-per-click Internet advertising also known as CPC search engines allow individuals to “buy” a position in search results that are distributed throughout a network that potentially drive a large amount of traffic to your website.

For example: If you run a website selling DVDs you will want to pick keywords which relate to your product. After choosing the keywords for your pay-per-click Internet advertising campaign you would then write a short descriptive ad. You then need to determine how much you are willing to spend on each keyword per click, this could range from .05¢ to several dollars. Depending on the position you want your ad to be displayed dictates how much you need to pay per click. You only get charged when someone clicks on your ad.

There are several things to consider when setting up a pay-per-click Internet advertising campaign. Being in the #1 position is not always best. You should do some research to see which position works best for the type of product you are selling. Write a descriptive ad and once you feel you have the ad that will lead to the most conversions the ad will need to be tested. Track the ad and the clicks your ad receives along with conversions to see if you need to make any changes. The goal here is not to get clicks but conversions. Simply getting clicks only costs you money, you want to make money off the clicks you receive. The focus should not be quantity of clicks but quality of clicks. Determining the right keywords plays a major role in accomplishing this task.

If we go back to our example of selling DVDs chances are if you choose the keyword “DVD” you will be paying a lot of money per click for a general keyword that will deliver a lot of traffic to your website. Choosing general keywords will get you traffic but chances are you will not convert much of that traffic to sales. If you were to be more specific by choosing keywords such as “Buy DVD Online” or “Buy Cars DVD” your ads will be more specific to individuals looking to buy DVDs online rather than people just doing a general search for DVDs. It may take some trial and error but when done correctly you will begin to see positive results that come with a good pay-per-click advertising campaign.
