Starting a Home Internet Business has Never Been Easier.

Goal Setting for Your Home Internet Business

I am sure you have heard it before, “setting goals is the key to success.” Well this is partly true. In order to be successful you must be driven and focused on the right things. So many times we set goals in our life only to forget about them. Why is this? One reason could be that the goal really wasn’t that important in the first place or maybe the goal was unattainable and you just lost interest.

Before you start your home Internet business take time to think long and hard about what you want to accomplish. Write down as many things you can think of. Don’t write general goals such as “to be stinking rich.” What kind of goal is that? And how rich is “stinking rich?” Write goals like, “pay off $20,000 of my debt” or “quite my job in 2 years.” Be specific and realistic when jotting down your goals. Set goals that are truly important to you. It will be easier to stick with them to completion.

There is an acronym that is commonly followed when setting goals, SMART.

Specific – set goals that are specific, avoid being to general. The more specific the goal the easier it will be to commit to completing that goal.

Measurable – when working to meet your goals it is important to set up mechanisms to measure your progress. Quantity and timeliness are common units of measure when starting a home Internet business.

Attainable – the goals you set must be attainable. If you try to do too much in to short of a period of time you will only end up failing. The more attainable a goal is the more you will work to meet that goal.

Realistic – setting realistic goals is different than setting attainable goals. For example you may set a goal to write 15 articles for you website over the next 5 days. Well for the most part this is attainable but what if you don’t have any clue what you are going to write about and you only have 2 hours of free time to work on this goal. Well clearly this goal is not realistic.

Time Specific – if you are going to set a goal you need to include a deadline to meet this goal. By setting a specific time to have your goal accomplished keeps you on track for meeting all your goals.

Goal setting doesn’t have to be difficult. Make a list of some of your long-term goals along with short-term goals. Some goals may require sub-goals. Break down time consuming and long-term goals into smaller more attainable goals. By making goal setting a habit you will be more productive at your home internet business.
